FAQ

Which suit is ranked the highest?

Suits value nothing while comparing hand rankings in poker. Suit ranking is just a misconception that comes from other card games. In brief, you are no need to worry even if your opponent holds the same hand as yours but a different suit. In this scenario, the amount in the pot divided equally between the both.

Which is the better hand – Straight or Flush?

Most of the beginners get confused over this. Forget not that, Flush always beats the Straight in Texas Hold’em poker. But, someone who holds a Straight Flush will win over both the hands.

Who wins when two of the players form a Straight hand?

In the above case, the player forming straight with a higher card wins the game.

For instance: 7(Spade) 6(Diamond) 5(Spade) 4(Heart) 3(Heart) wins over 6(Diamond) 5(Club) 4(Club) 3(Heart) 2(Spade)

What if two players hold the same pairs?

Simply, the pot money will get split between the two players if they have same pair hands unless some forms other higher hands like “Three of a Kind”, Straight or Full House.

Who wins when two of the players form a Full House?

The player who has the higher-ranking 3 cards wins the game in this case.

Example: 9 ♥ 9 ♦ 9 ♣ Q ♦ Q ♣ wins over 3♦ 3 ♠ 3 ♣ A ♦ A ♠.

If both the players have same three cards (trips), one having the higher pair will win.

Example: 8 ♦ 8 ♣ 8 ♥ K ♠ K ♥ wins over 8 ♦ 8 ♠ 8 ♣ J ♦ J ♠.

What if none makes a combination in the game?

In such a case, the player who holds the highest ranking card will win the pot.

Example: A ♥ 10 ♦ 8 ♣ 4 ♠ 2 ♦ wins over K ♣ J ♥ 8 ♣ 4 ♠ 2 ♦.

If the highest ranking card of the players matches, then the next higher ranking cards are compared and so till the difference in found.

Example: A ♥ Q ♣ 9 ♦4 ♠ 3 ♦ wins over A ♠ J ♥ 10 ♦ 4 ♠ 3 ♦.

What is ‘Kicker’ in poker hands?

Any side card in poker hands is termed as kicker.

Example: In the “Four of a Kind” 7 ♣ 7 ♠ 7 ♦ 7 ♥ K ♣, the kicker is K ♣.

Although kicker is a side card, it becomes significant in determining the winner in case of same hand.

Example: If two players have the same pair hand: 9 ♥ 9 ♦ K ♣8 ♣3 ♠ and 9 ♦ 9 ♣ Q ♣5 ♥4 ♠, the first player will win the pot because of higher kicker K ♣ against Q ♣.
